People of the Good Shepherd,

As an Anglican Church, our worship is guided more by the liturgical calendar than the nine month school year model. The cycle of the liturgical year guides us in our feasting and fasting. It informs us in our pursuit of God, the different ways that we pray, and the different areas of our spiritual lives on which we may focus.

We have now entered into the Season after Pentecost which is also called "Ordinary Time." Beginning last year in November, we started the Season of Advent, which is the beginning of the year for the church (not Jan. 1), and together we have walked out the story of Jesus, culminating in Pentecost two weeks ago. We will be in Ordinary Time until we cycle back to Advent on December 3rd.

Ordinary Time is also called Kingdomtide. The focus of this season is the people of God, the story of the church and its mission, and the in-breaking of God’s kingdom in and through his disciples.

The color of Ordinary Time is green. Green is representative of growth. Throughout the season, I will often ask how God is growing you, in what ways do you see him tending to you, and how are you cultivating your life in him?

As we begin Ordinary Time, I pray that you will know God more deeply and that you will know Christ’s presence and the working of the Holy Spirit in all of your lives, even in the mundane, or even in what might feel like ordinary times.

Grace & Peace,

Fr. Mike
