Our aim at Church of the Good Shepherd is to worship God in Spirit and Truth. We gather together to enact God’s story, to be reminded of His promises in Scripture, to feed at His table, to take part in His death, burial and resurrection, and to be sent out to live as His people. We see worship as our chief work. One of the ways we do this is through music.
What does it mean to worship God in Spirit and in Truth?
In John chapter 4, Jesus has a dialogue with the Samaritan woman and says, “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Jesus also states in John 3:6 that one needs to be born of the Spirit to enter into the kingdom of God. True worshipers, therefore, are those who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and on whom God has set His seal (2 Cor. 1:22).
To worship God in truth is to worship Him in accordance with the Scriptures. In John 17:17 we read Jesus’ prayer that we would be sanctified by the truth when He says, “Your word (God’s word) is truth.” The Scriptures disclose God’s character and identity. To worship God aright, we must worship Him in a way that is consistent with who He is and what He commands. Our worship, therefore, is formed and informed by the Holy Scriptures and who we know God to be.
What type of music can I expect?
In general, our music is contemporary but the songs we sing range from ancient to modern.

Meet our Chief Musician!
Nancy Quarantotto (pictured above) and her family moved to Lynchburg in 2006, having spent the first twenty years of her life in New Jersey and then 19 in New York. The foundation for much of her musical training comes from various choirs in her high school days. In New York, Nancy was active in her local church and was blessed by leading music, planning worship services, and working with various music and drama teams.
This lifelong love and involvement with music continues to sustain and challenge her. The Lord has birthed a desire to deepen her relationship with Him through lyrics and continues to use music to minister to her. It is out of this abundance from the Lord that she serves at Church of the Good Shepherd.
Nancy and her husband Marcelo have been married for nearly 30 years. They have been blessed with five children, two granddaughters, and two grandchildren on the way. While music is her great love, Nancy has an Associate’s degree in Biology. She is currently homeschooling her youngest son and works in the local co-op teaching drama. She enjoys camping, hiking, working-out, art, reading, cooking/baking, and a host of other things including spending time with her brothers and sisters at COGS!
